Darryl Lim is the Managing Partner of the Billyard Insurance Group Alta Vista location in Ottawa. He launched the BIG Alta Vista to provide a one-stop shop for clients to take care of their personal, commercial, and life insurance needs. As managing partner, Darryl is proud to lead a team of brokers and support staff who are eager to serve their clients and communities.
Darryl launched his second career in the insurance industry in 2016. He has been consistently recognized as a top sales producer and award-winning insurance professional who has received numerous accolades for his outstanding customer service. Darryl is both a personal and commercial lines broker specializing in 5 unique market segments: real estate investors, small business owners, cyber insurance, law enforcement professionals (incl. RCMP and Ottawa Police personnel), as well as Mandarin-speaking clients.
Darryl loves people and is known in the community as a networker and educator. He takes great pleasure in learning about each client’s needs, finding solutions to help protect what’s important to clients, and giving them the peace of mind that they are properly insured. Taking care of each client and earning their loyalty is what brings him the greatest satisfaction. In fact, many clients have become friends over the years.
An alumnus of both Carleton University and Griffith University (Australia), Darryl holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Anthropology as well as an Advanced Diploma in Mass Communications. He is a proud military veteran who served 2.5 years in the Army, and 11 years with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Pipes & Drums as the Drum Sergeant and principal percussionist.
Darryl has been recognized for his efforts in sponsoring the Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) motorcycle rallies and supporting the Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre (OCCSC) initiatives in Ottawa. In 2016, he co-founded the Ottawa Caledonian Pipes & Drums and continues serving as its Drum Major today.
Outside of work, you can find him dedicating a few hours each week coaching/mentoring youth or leading his pipe band at various community parades. Darryl is actively involved in the pipe band community as a competitor, adjudicator, emcee and Drum Major at numerous Scottish festivals and highland games. In his spare time, Darryl is an avid traveller and creates whisky reviews on his YouTube channel.
