Darryl Lim

Darryl Lim is the Managing Partner of Billyard Insurance Group (BIG) Alta Vista in Ottawa, where he leads a high-performing, diverse team of licensed brokers and support professionals committed to delivering exceptional client service and community impact.

With over a decade of experience in the insurance industry, Darryl is widely recognized as both a trusted advisor and an engaging educator. A natural connector, he is frequently invited to speak at events and workshops, where he shares practical insights that help individuals and business owners better understand risk, coverage, and protection strategies.

Darryl is known for his consultative, relationship-driven approach. He takes the time to deeply understand each client’s unique situation, crafting tailored insurance solutions that protect what matters most while providing clarity and confidence. His dedication to service excellence has earned him industry recognition – and more importantly, long-standing client relationships built on trust. Many of his clients have remained with him for years, often becoming personal friends.

An award-winning broker, Darryl’s core expertise lies in Commercial Insurance, where he advises small business owners, contractors, restaurants, real estate investors, and cyber & technology firms. He also has a specialized focus in Personal Insurance, serving real estate investors, law enforcement professionals, and Mandarin-speaking clients with culturally informed, personalized guidance.

Darryl holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Anthropology from Carleton University and an Advanced Diploma in Mass Communications from Griffith University (Australia). He is also a proud veteran, having served 2.5 years in the Army as an Infantry Section Leader. In addition, Darryl spent 12 years with the RCMP Pipes & Drums in Ottawa as Drum Sergeant and principal percussionist—an experience that reflects his discipline, leadership, and commitment to excellence.

Beyond his professional work, Darryl is deeply involved in the pipe band community across Ontario and Eastern Canada. As a competitor, adjudicator, emcee, and Drum Major, he is a familiar presence at Scottish festivals and Highland Games. He co-founded the Ottawa Caledonian Pipes & Drums in 2016 and continues to serve as their Drum Major. 

In his personal time, Darryl is an avid traveler, passionate foodie, and whisky enthusiast who enjoys discovering new cultures and experiences.
