BIG Hearts and BIG Sudbury join forces in support of children with cancer

Tuesday, 12 March 2024

As part of its mission to raise funds for vulnerable children across Canada, BIG Hearts joined forces with members of the BIG Sudbury branch in support of Pond Hockey Festival on The Rock tournament

The beloved annual event brought the Sudbury hockey community together to raise funds for Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer (NOFCC) and Camp Quality Northern Ontario. This year, 30 teams across 3 divisions participated in the tournament, featuring games at various locations, including 3 outdoor rinks (Robinson Park, Delki Dozzi, and Algonquin Playground), Northern Hockey Academy (NHA), and Countryside Arena. Through a donation of $3,000, BIG Hearts helped this year’s tournament raise over $40,000.

Joshua Brown, Managing Partner of BIG Sudbury, was deeply involved in organizing the tournament, sitting on the committee for the second consecutive year. Joshua expressed gratitude for BIG Hearts' involvement, emphasizing the significance of their donation and the impact it will have:

"This year’s event was a massive success. Mother Nature tried hard to complicate the days leading up to it, but our community's outdoor rink owners worked even harder. Their determination, coupled with the city of Sudbury's support, ensured our players had a place to play and helped us give back to local charities for children with cancer. BIG Hearts' contribution meant the world to me as a Managing Partner. Their support not only excited our committee but also solidified the BIG brand as a leader in the community."

When asked about the sponsorship of this year’s tournament, Cindy Billyard, Executive Director of BIG Hearts, said the following:

"Partnering with our branches to support events like Pond Hockey Festival on The Rock is more than just a donation - it's an investment in the well-being of our communities. BIG Hearts is honoured to have been a part of this event and is thrilled to see what a tremendous success it was. There is no doubt in my mind that the funds raised through this initiative will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
