Uninsured Automobile Coverage

If you’re injured in an accident, your Uninsured Automobile Coverage protects you for two scenarios. The first is if you’re in an accident with a driver who doesn’t have insurance, and the second is if you can’t identify the vehicle; for example, if you’re a victim of a hit and run.

Direct Compensation - Property Damage

If you’re ever in an accident that’s not your fault, Direct Compensation Property Damage (DCPD) may cover the damage to your car and everything in it. Let’s say you get into a collision and it’s the other driver’s fault. Your car gets damaged so you make a claim to your insurer. It’s your insurer who pays for the damages. There’s no lawsuit between the drivers in this situation. If the other driver is only 50% at-fault, DCPD will only cover 50% of the damage to the car, the things in it, and the loss of use.

Common Optional Coverages

Everyone's situation is unique. Customize your policy with additional coverage options for the protection you need.

Accident Forgiveness
Also known as Driving Record Protection, is an optional but very important feature of an automobile insurance policy. It allows you to avoid the increase in car insurance rates that will happen when you have your first at-fault accident. Without Accident Forgiveness, in the event of an accident or claim, your insurance premiums may see a huge increase on renewal.

Loss of Use
When you’re in an accident, the cost to repair your vehicle isn’t your only expense. You still may have to rent a car or find another way to get around while your vehicle is being repaired. Also known as OPCF 20, this will cover the cost of substitute transportation if you are unable to use your vehicle because of a claim. It includes hiring a taxi, renting a substitute vehicle, public transportation or any combination of the above.

Non-Owned Auto
Liability for Physical Damage to Non-Owned Automobiles, such as a rented vehicle. Also known as OPCF 27, provides a transfer of coverage on your current automobile policy with a specified limit along with the applicable deductible to a rental vehicle. Valid in Canada or the United States.

Collision Insurance Coverage
If your car gets damaged because you've collided with something (like a light post, guardrail, or other car), the cost of repairs can really add up. Collision Coverage could cover the cost of those repairs, so you don't have to pay them out of your own pocket. You may only need to pay the deductible.

Comprehensive Insurance Coverage
If your car is damaged by fire, theft, or vandalism, you can rest assured that the damage is covered when you've got Comprehensive Coverage.

What, Why, When, Who and How

Are you new to insurance? Or just want to know a little more about it? We're here to help. Insurance may seem a bit complicated, but once you’ve got a handle on the basics, it gets easier and you can start making confident, informed choices for yourself. After all, knowledge is power.

What is car insurance?

Car insurance is your way of being able to cover the expenses that come up if you’re driving and you hurt someone or damage someone’s property, or if you get hurt and need medical care. This is called Liability insurance and, it's mandatory if you want to drive a car. You can also voluntarily add insurance that gives you coverage for damage to your car caused by collision, or protection against damage or loss from things like theft or vandalism.

Why do I need it?

Let's say you've injured someone. The costs of that person’s medical bills, hospital stay, rehabilitation, medication and other types of care can really add up. They’re off work and may need a source of income. Their spouse and/or dependants may need financial support. Most of us don’t have tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars lying around to cover those costs, so that’s where your Liability insurance comes in. If you’ve hit someone’s car, it’s the same thing. Their repairs need to be covered. Or, their car needs to be replaced. The insurance you pay into helps cover these expenses.

Who has to get it?

Every person who drives a car must have insurance.

When do I need to have it?

From the moment you’re handed the keys to the car you call your own, you need to have insurance. No matter how often you drive it, or how far you drive it, or even if you just have it stored in the garage, if you own it, you need to insure it.

How do I get it?

You can begin by obtaining an on-line quote for your insurance with the Billyard Insurance Group. We will shop the marketplace for you to find the most suitable insurance company offering the coverage you need at the best possible price we can find. We’ll ask for some information about you, the car you’re going to drive, and your driving record. Here’s some of the information we will need from you.
- Your name, address, gender and birthday
- How long you’ve been driving
- The make, model and year of your car
- Whether you own or lease your car
- How many violations are on your driving record
- How many claims you’ve had
Once we’ve provided you with a quote, you are just a click away from your insurance being setup.

Why is it so expensive?

Everyone’s insurance premium reflects their unique situation. When we calculate your premium, we look at a lot of factors, like the theft and crime rates in your area, how often and how far you’ll be driving, the type of car you’ll be driving, and your driving record. If any of these factors pose a risk for harm due to theft, collision, or vandalism, your premium will be higher. We also look at how long you’ve been driving.
